Staff development resources provide professional development tools and opportunities for staff and volunteers. Professional development includes all learning experiences that improve an individual’s performance and occurs in a variety of settings.

National 4-H Learning Priorities

National 4-H Learning Priorities provides learning opportunities for 4-H professionals that enhance program quality. This leads to positive outcomes for young people and improves the long-term success of 4-H. The National 4-H Learning Priorities includes five content areas with resources.

The National Framework on Volunteerism calls upon Extension staff to increase their knowledge and capacity to implement strong volunteer delivery systems at the local level. This web site contains tools to assist staff.

Essential Elements of Youth Development

The Essential Elements Training Curriculum provides resources to engage youth development professionals (e.g. 4-H agents/educators) in building the capacity of volunteers and to perpetuate the Essential Elements within programming practices. The training of trainers curriculum has highlights each element along with an overview and wrap-up module.

Expanding Outreach to New and Underserved Audiences

There are five syllabi for the Equity, Access, and Opportunity learning priorities. The first three - Sensitivity, Awareness, and Communication - form the foundation on which the last two -Relevant Programming and Inclusive Organizations - are built.

Evaluating for Impact

An expanded syllabi covers 7 content areas to help with evaluation from the planning through the interpretation of data.

In addition a rubric, a self-assessment and resource list support the syllabi.

The 4-H youth development profession relies upon a 4-H professional research and knowledge base to guide efforts when working with and on behalf of young people. This base includes competencies essential to conducting 4-H youth development programs.

4-H Standards for Professional Development: The 4-H Standards for Professional Development act as a guide for developing, conducting, and assessing professional development experiences and resources for the 4-H workforce. They establish standards of excellence for 4-H professional development.
4-H Standards for Professional Development Checklist: This checklist is used by National to review professional development resources. This is also a tool that may be useful for anyone who wishes to review their materials to use. View the checklist.

SET Video Challenge Winners: National 4-H Council, National 4-H Headquarters, and University of Arizona 4-H, invited all 4-H professionals, staff and volunteers to produce their own digital film for front-line educators and volunteers to better implement SET programs and you responded with excellent work. The Power of the Wind Training Guide: The Training Guide is fully-scripted and delivered to facilitators to understand and implement The Power of the Wind curriculum.
