National 4-H Summit for Healthy Living
The National 4-H Summit for Healthy Living is a pioneer in the National Youth Summit Series, bringing together teen health leaders from across the country to focus on learning about and solving healthy living issues impacting our homes, our community and our economy.
Designed for grades 9 through 12, the Summit provides the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to address today’s issues facing nutrition education, physical fitness, wellness and emotional well-being.
The Healthy Living Summit includes:
- Career Preparation & Networking
- Educational Workshops
- Community Action Plans developed by the teens to address issues in their communities upon their return
- Community Service Projects
- Washington, D.C. Field Trips
- State Showcase of successful 4-H healthy living programs

99% of the teens who attended the 2019 Healthy Living Summit reported that it helped them become leaders and create change in their communities.

Elisabeth Watkins, 2019 Youth in Action Winner
In 2019 Elisabeth received the Youth in Action Award, the highest 4-H honor awarded to a 4-H’er for overcoming challenges and using skills gained in 4-H to create a lasting impact in his or her community.
Elisabeth overcame an eating disorder through 4-H cooking projects. Now, she empowers others to live healthy lives and underscores the importance of agriculture to healthy living through local and state 4-H cooking competitions.
Outstanding Healthy Living Programs

Tuscon Village Farm
Tucson Village Farm
Tucson Village Farm is a working urban farm built by and for youth. A program of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, this seed-to-table program reconnects young people to a healthy food system, teaches them how to grow and prepare fresh food, and empowers them to make healthy life choices.

4-H Medicine Cabinet
4-H Medicine Cabinet
4-H Medicine Cabinet, a project of the 4-H Health Heroes, was created after the group attended the National Youth Summit on Healthy Living. The display raises awareness and educates the public about the opioid crisis and initiates conversations about opioid misuse and its implications for individuals, families, and communities.

Operation Prevention
Operation Prevention
The Drug Enforcement Administration and Discovery Education have joined forces to combat a growing epidemic of prescription opioid misuse and heroin use nationwide. Operation Prevention's mission is to educate students about the true impacts of opioids and kick-start lifesaving conversations in the home and classroom.
