Meet Dr. Robert Jones, Chancellor of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a proud Georgia 4-H alumnus, and member of National 4-H Council’s Board of Trustees. A son of a sharecropper in the Jim Crow era of southwestern Georgia, he established himself as a successful scientist, renowned scholar, award-winning musical artist, and today, spearheads innovative research in COVID-19 testing.

Cancer Doesn’t Define Me, and 2020 Won’t Define Us
Cancer is part of my story, but it doesn’t define me. 4-H continues to be the reason for some of my best days, and helps me through some of my most challenging ones. And after a year like 2020, millions of kids need that support, too. This difficult year is always going to be part of our story, but it doesn’t have to dictate our future. I believe 4-H is what kids need most right now.

National 4‑H Council has announced the election of two new leaders to its Board of Trustees  – Dr. Jon Boren, Associate Dean and Director of New Mexico Cooperative Extension Service, and Abby Durheim, 4‑H Young Alumni Advisory Committee member and a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
4-H Receives $3 Million Grant from the Walmart Foundation to Improve Health Equity in Communities Across the Country
The Walmart Foundation awarded a $3 million grant to National 4‑H Council to help reach more than 269,000 youth, families, 4‑H professionals and volunteers across the country with essential nutrition education through the 4‑H Healthy Habits program. The program focuses on rural and underserved communities to leverage youth – and their voices – as catalysts to build healthier lifestyles with education and activities in nutrition, wellness, cooking skills, physical activity and budgeting.

National 4 H Council Awarded $3 Million to Support CLOVER
USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) announced last week an investment of more than $10.5 million to support educators at technical schools, community and junior colleges, and youth development programs, including Cooperative Extension’s 4‑H program. USDA-NIFA will invest in eight regional and national projects, including a $3 million grant to National 4‑H Council to support the continued development of 4‑H at Home, Cooperative Extension’s positive youth development digital platform on 4‑H.org.

Organizations Partner to Combat the Digital Divide by Launching Searchable Wi-Fi Map for Needed Broadband Connections
Several partner organizations today announced the launch of the American Connection Project (ACP) interactive Wi-Fi map. The map provides a free resource to help the public locate more than 2,000 free Wi-Fi locations in 49 U.S. states, with more than half at local 4‑H Cooperative Extension offices.

Jennifer Sirangelo has been named the winner of a Gold Stevie® Award in the Female Executive of the Year category in the 17th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business.
